I love these things! It’s so easy to dispense salt, pepper, and other ground spices for cooking or finishing. You just turn them upside down and it starts dispensing. They also hold quite a lot of seasoning.

This is a rare stainless steel, spill-proof, insulated, and dishwasher-safe to-go mug.

You never need to worry about your stemware breaking in the dishwasher with these handy devices. As long as you're careful when attaching and detaching, you'll have no broken glasses.

I used to love the Simplehuman automatic soap dispensers, but I’ve tried a number of models and they have a surprisingly high failure rate, especially considering their price. This one is quite large, but it holds a lot and unlike the Simplehuman I can put any soap I want into it.

I like the Meater for tracking food temperatures, and I use something like this to double check it when I think it’s done.

If you’re getting into BBQ or want a good way to keep track of the Thanksgiving turkey, this is the meat thermometer for you. It’s completely wireless and rechargeable, and you can track the progress on your phone! It even gives you a surprisingly accurate finish time estimate based on current conditions.

It's good to have a number of flashlights in the house in case of power outages. These are rechargeable by USB and are super bright.

I carry this flashlight every single day and use it all the time. It’s so easy to carry and is extremely bright for its size.

Gift Cards

An Amazon Gift Card is a great thing to give to someone who's going through a big change in their life. Whether they've just moved, had a baby, or gone to college, there's going to be something they need to order from Amazon.

Netflix is a great streaming video service with fantastic original programming and great selection of recent TV shows.

Steam is a digital video game store. Computer gamers love Steam's service.

XBox gamers can use XBox Live to play online with friends and purchase games and content on Microsoft's store.

A Little Pricier

The Ecobee has become my favorite smart thermostat, mostly because it can pair with little room sensors that can be placed anywhere in your home, and will help heat/cool based upon the actual current occupancy in your home. You can even tell it to adjust to specific rooms at certain times, like only the bedrooms at night.

These are the sensors for the Ecobee. They give you temperature and motion readings for any room they’re located in.

In 20 years of experience with home automation, by far my favorite product has been the Lutron Caseta line of products. Nothing else has been as fast or reliable. Not even close. This is a good starter pack, with one dimmer switch and a remote. They sell lamp modules and other switches, and even controllers for Sonos speakers.
